MAYFIELD TO LEAVE BILL DAVIS AT SEASON'S END

Nextel Cup driver Jeremy Mayfield will not return to Bill Davis Racing next season, the team said Wednesday.

Mayfield joined BDR this year as the team expanded to two cars, but he has struggled to make races and has qualified for only eight of the 21 events.

No replacement was named.

"Jeremy has done all we asked of him and more as part of what has been an enormous challenge in 2007 for the entire BDR Cup program," team owner Bill Davis said.

This season has been difficult for all new teams, particularly the Toyotas who have to earn their spots in the field and adjust to both a new car and the Car of Tomorrow.

F1: The sport's governing body, FIA, said Ferrari's case against rival McLaren will be heard by its International Court of Appeal on Sept. 13. The dispute started when a 780-page technical dossier on Ferrari cars was found at the home of McLaren chief designer Mike Coughlan, who has since been suspended. Nigel Stepney, the Ferrari mechanic who allegedly supplied the documents in April, was fired.

NEW SPONSOR: Pep Boys is the new title sponsor of the Oct. 28 Nextel Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
