SILVER SUITS KRAUSS JUST FINE

SPC junior also gets bronze, while CCC's Cameron Martin nabs two silvers.

Kelsey Krauss touched the wall like every swimmer, turning around breathlessly, pulling off her goggles to squint at the scoreboard, eagerly searching for her time and place.

Krauss' event was over in the 23 seconds it took to race from one end of the pool to the other Thursday. The 50-yard freestyle was the one she had the best shot at winning.

The St. Petersburg Catholic junior came close, finishing second in 23.95 - 0.38 seconds behind Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest's Brooke Atkinson.

"I thought I was close to winning," Krauss said. "We were all immediately looking for our times. Overall, I was pleased."

In the 100 fly, Krauss clocked in at 56.98 to take third. Her times in both events were personal bests and will be considered for All-America status.

On the boys side, Clearwater Central Catholic's Cameron Martin finished second in the 200 individual medley (1:51.75) and 100 fly (50.59).

Martin had the top time in the preliminaries and had the lead through the first 100 yards of the final. That's when Jacksonville Bolles' Branden Whitehurst bore down to win in 1:50.82.

"I tried to stick to the game plan (in both events)," Martin said. "I was confident going into (the 200 IM), but I knew there were a lot of great competitors."

In the 100 fly, Martin lost to his nemesis, Calvary Christian's Jose Crescimbeni, who finished in 48.70.

"Jose is just amazing," Martin said. "All I tried to do was stay close to him."
