ORLANDO MAGIC OFFERS TWO SCHOLARSHIPS

High school seniors can apply by Friday for two scholarships from the Orlando Magic.

One scholarship is for $10,000 for any Florida university. The other is for $20,000 for a minority to attend the University of Central Florida.

The scholarships require a minimum 1,010 SAT score, financial need, a grade point average of 3.0, a letter of recommendation and a 500-word essay on how the student would solve a major societal issue.

BELMONT/JACKSON HEIGHTS

Students join engineering group

Students in the Academy of Aeronautics & Astronautics, a magnet at Middleton High School, were recently admitted into the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a professional engineering association.

The 24-member group is now one of three active high school branches in the country and 170 college branches worldwide.

Students will have access to seminars, design competitions and scholarships.
