John Travolta will attend a semiprivate reception March 4 at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort in St. Petersburg, launching the third annual Sunscreen Film Festival. Travolta, a central Florida resident, is throwing his support behind the annual cinema showcase and its focus on homegrown talents. "I love living in Florida and want to see more films made here," the actor said in a news release. "This is what Sunscreen is working toward, and I support what they are doing." A record 240 entries from more than a dozen countries are in this year's lineup, including 47 by Florida artists. The festival is March 19-22 at the Vinoy and the nearby Baywalk Muvico 20 in St. Petersburg. See the festival Web site (www.sunscreenfilmfestival.com) for details. The reception with Travolta is open only to Sunscreen organizers, local filmmakers represented in the festival and assorted VIPs. A limited number of tickets are available, each costing a $500 donation to Sunscreen coffers. For information, call Harry Chittenden at (727) 420-0566.
