The St. Petersburg Bar Foundation made more than $50,000 and honored lawyers Robert C.Decker and the late Roy G. Harrell Jr. at its annual Heroes Among Us dinner, held in the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
Keynote speaker Lee Roy Selmon spoke about the work ethic and values his parents instilled in him and his eight siblings, all of whom grew up on a farm in Oklahoma.
Jean Galanos, who is general counsel to the Sembler Co.,paid tribute to Decker, expressing gratitude for his mentorship. He has been active in numerous civic and professional groups, including All Children's Hospital, Eckerd College, the Florida Bar, the St. Petersburg Bar Association and the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership.
Ernest Mascara led accolades for Harrell, a lawyer and accomplished community activist who died in 2006. Darby Dickerson, dean of the Stetson College of Law, was honorary chairwoman; Nancy Biesinger and Robert Kapusta co-chaired the event committee.
