What has happened to the merger between XM and Sirius satellite radio?
The merger between satellite radio networks XM and Sirius is on hold pending a ruling by the Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission. Opponents claim a merger would eliminate competition and create a monopoly. Supporters argue it is necessary because of competition with Internet radio, portable music players and new digital radio technology. When the FCC licensed the companies in 1997, each was barred from acquiring the other.
