HINES, Ann Groover 83, of St. Petersburg, passed away at home on Feb. 3, 2008. Ann was born on Oct. 16, 1924, in Valdosta, GA, and was raised in Jacksonville, FL. After graduating from Landon High School, she worked for the American National Bank and attended Jacksonville Junior College. During this time she became a student pilot and soloed. At age 22, she met and married Andrew H. Hines Jr., of Alachua, FL. They were married for 60 years and raised four children. After four years living "up north," Ann and Andy moved back to their beloved Florida and settled in St. Petersburg in 1951 where they raised their family. Ann was active in the Lakewood Garden Circle and in Trinity United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Church Council member and chair of the Women's Society for Christian Service. She also was a member of the Board of Directors for "Growth in Faith" and served in leadership capacities in several community Bible studies. One of Ann's Christian service highlights was going with a medical missionary team to Uganda inoculating children against measles and other diseases. Ann was also active in community service. She volunteered with the Christmas Toy Shop. Ann was a member of the Board of Trustees of All Children's Hospital where she also volunteered in the neonatal unit. She served on the Board of Trustees for St. Petersburg Junior College and especially enjoyed the student graduation ceremonies. Ann was well known for her kindness, hospitality, her loving, nurturing nature and her faithful service to her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She enjoyed her family and spending time with them, including boating, picnics, and family get togethers. She was loved greatly by her family and many friends. Ann is survived by her husband of 60 years, Andrew H. Hines Jr.; her children: son, A. Hampton Hines III and wife, Shelly, of St. Petersburg; daughter, Elizabeth Renee Dale and husband, Dave, of St. Petersburg; son, J. Bradford Hines and wife, Holly, of St. Petersburg; and son, Daniel Howland Hines and wife, Karen, of Lebanon, OH. She has 14 grandchildren, Becky, Mindy, Linda, Drew, Kara, Kate, Ann, Brad, Janice, Courtland, Will, James, Mary and Hampton (due in May). REARICK, Patti A. Gilliland 79, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, peacefully at home in Largo after a brief illness. She was born in Springfield, OH on Oct. 1, 1928, the daughter of the late Charles & Effie Perchment. In 1981, Patti retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base after 19 years of service. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Patti enjoyed spending time with family and friends, volunteering, Chinese food and traveling. She never knew a stranger and made friends wherever she went. Patti could be counted on to play cards at a moment's notice. She and her late husband, Ned R. Gilliland, relocated to Largo in 1982, where they spent their retirement years prior to his death in 1993. In 2001, Patti was joined with Paul Rearick of Durand, MI. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Karen & Jim Kaffenbarger, of Springfield; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin M. & Eleanor Gilliland, of Indianapolis, and Keith R. & Denise Gilliland, of Valparaiso, IN; a special niece and nephew, and their spouses, Connie (David) Heckler and Edward (Cathy) O'Brien; 2 stepchildren, Doug (Carol) Rearick and Sharon Rearick; 4 grandchildren, James Kaffenbarger, Ashley Vukovits, Bo & Libbie Gilliland; 4 step-grandchildren, Sheryl Dale, Jimmy Brandlien, Katie Rearick and the late Sherry Brewer; great-nephews, Jason Heckler, Paul, Erik and Keefe O'Brien; 5 great-grandchildren, Stephen, Austin, & Morgan Vukovits, Jack & Lucy Kaffenbarger. THOMPSON, Paul J. 88, of Belleair Bluffs, passed away Feb. 3, 2008. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy, of 47 years and sons, Thomas Thompson (Kathy), Hendersonville, NC, Terry Joseph Thompson (Danielle), Zephyrhills; daughter, Vickie Thompson (Bruce), Pagosa Springs, CO, Patsy Adkins, Hilton Head, SC, Donna Knight (Robert), Palmer, TX, Shirley Hayes, Naples, FL, and Sharon Marino, Tampa; 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grand children. Paul was born in Akron, OH, where he studied at the Akron Art Institute and had a life-long passion for art. He enlisted in the Army and served in WWII as a sergeant. He retired from Goodyear Tire in 1983 after 45 years as a band builder. They moved to Belleair Bluffs in 1989 and became a valued member of the Largo Smuppets performing puppet shows for children. He was loved by many friends and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Masonic Temple and the Anona United Methodist Church. TOSH, Lela Rockefeller 92, passed away Feb. 3, 2008 at Syracuse Home in Bald-winsville, NY. She had previously lived in Florida for 30 years. Mrs. Tosh was born in Schenectady, NY, the fourth daughter of Frank and Gertrude Rockefeller. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and SUNY Albany. Following several years with TerBush & Powell Insurance Agency, she taught in the Minetto Union School District. Mrs. Tosh was active in many community groups including, Rotary Armes, Save the Children Donation, Woman's City Club, Oswego Garden Club, Welcome Wagon, Faxton Hospital Auxiliary, the Presbyterian Church, and various garden and country clubs. She taught Beginners Bridge to many groups in Oswego, Utica, and Florida. All members of her family predeceased her as well as her husband, W. Stewart Tosh in 2001. Remaining is her daughter, Carolyn Burke, of East Amherst, NY; 2 sons, Douglas Tosh, of Baldwinsville and Brian S. Tosh, of Corning, NY; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He got his Masters of Education at the University of Florida and became a history teacher. He then retired after 37 years with the Pinellas County school system where he held the position of principal at Clearwater Jr. High, JFK Middle and Azalea Middle. He was a lifetime member of the PTA and a member of the Clearwater Kiwanis. Jack is survived by his wife of 29 years, Charleen Williams; and 1 sister, Martha Hyland, TX.
