Pinellas' marks mixed in poll

Pinellas County residents rank their quality of life high and give county government good marks, according to a survey released Tuesday. The telephone survey of 800 residents took place from Nov. 12 to Dec. 6. Respondents ranked public safety, attracting and retaining high-paying jobs and transportation as the county's top three funding priorities. But when compared with 31 other jurisdictions with populations over 500,000, Pinellas sometimes fell short. Compared with those other places, Pinellas scored in only the 29th percentile on the question of whether residents are pleased with the overall direction of the county.
