Alida Belle Stone Desper, 94, formerly of Clearwater, Fl, died, February 3, 2008 at Cypress Cove Rehab Center in Crystal River, fl from a short illness. She previously resided at Cedar Creek Assisted Living Facility in Crystal River. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira A. Desper, brothers, J.O. Stone and George Stone, all longtime, prominent businessmen of Clearwater, Fl, and a step-grandson, Scott Mayo of Brandon, Fl. Born in Galt, Missouri, in 1914, she graduated Trenton High School and Junior College, her college years were spent at the University of Missouri and the University of Colorado. She was a retired "one room school teacher" from Trenton, Missouri. She married Ira A. Desper on June 5, 1938 in Trenton, Missouri. She was an active member of the Clearwater Kappa Alpha Theta sorority for over 65 years. The chapter has published a cookbook "For the Love of Pecans" which they dedicated to her for her many years of service. A member of Grace Lutheran Church in Clearwater, Fl, she attended St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crystal River, Fl. She was a contributing member of the Morton Plant Hospital Foundation in Clearwater, Fl. along with many various charities, and a member of the Trenton Alumnae, Trenton, Missouri. She is survived by her son, Stephen W. Desper, Beverly Hills, Fl, and her daughter, Suzanne D. (Sue) Mayo and son-in-law, Donald W. Mayo as well as sisters-in-law, Martha Stone, and Ruth Stone, both of Clearwater, Fl. COLSON, Barbara Jean Meredith, 84, was born in Morgantown, WV Jan. 27, 1924, and died Feb. 2, 2008, at her daughter's home in St. Petersburg. EVERETT, Robert Arlington died Feb 4, 2008. Bob was born, Aug. 31, 1935, in Boston, MA, to the late Dr. Albert Everett, Dean of Northeastern University and the late Anna Clow Everett. He attended Newton High School in Newton, MA. He attended Northeastern University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He attended the University of Maine at Orono, receiving a bachelor's degree in Forestry Management. He also attended the University of Vermont and was working on is 5 year certificate. He was a member of the Air National Guard, both in Maine and Vermont for 6 years. He was the District Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, serving in Rutland and Addison counties on Vermont, and the Camp Director if Camp Sunrise from 1962-1967. He was the Camp Director of the Youth Conservation Corps program out of the Rochester and Middlebury Ranger District of the US Forest Service in Vermont, and supervised the building of the US Forest Service Robert Frost Interpretive Trail in Ripton, VT. He retired after 23 years of teaching woodworking and industrial arts at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg, VT, in 1989. He and his family moved to New Harbor, ME, where he worked at Damariscotta Hardware Store for 11 years. He was a volunteer fireman in East Middlebury, VT, and an EMT with the Monkton First Responders. He was a Deacon and on the Board of Trustees of the Middlebury Methodist Church. Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed woodworking, camping, working with youths, sailing, duck hunting, fishing, and making maple syrup for his family and friends. He built four homes, almost all by himself, and refurbished 4 other homes and a mobile home. He enjoyed singing with the New Harbor Chorale and was a volunteer driver for the Meals on Wheels in Damariscotta, ME. He wintered with his wife on the Gulf of Mexico at Grand Shores West, in North Redington Beach, enjoying the warm sun away from the cold winters of the Northeast. Being the world's biggest self-proclaimed procrastinator, he died after a long struggle with Lewy Bodies Disease with Dementia, a type of Parkinson's Disease at the age of 72. He leaves behind his loving wife of 29 years, Connie Everett; and his children, and their families, Robert and Vicki Everett Jr., of Acton, MA, and his three children, Susan and JR Corcoran, of N. Windham, ME, and her two children, Jennifer and James Currier, who are currently expecting their first child, and Jane (Stowe) Lewis, their "adopted" daughter, and her two children. He also leaves behind a sister, Anne Sawyer, of Portland, ME; and two brothers, Albert Everett, of Little Rock, AR, and Dr. Herbert Everett, of Easton, MA. GIBBONS, Robert "Bob" 92, of Pinellas Park, passed away at his residence under the care of Hospice. He was the son of George & Eileen Gibbons. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Doris (Ruane); 2 sons, Robert M. (wife, Kathleen), Portland, ME, & Michael E. KEENER, Dorothy Morgan of Largo, died Jan. 30, 2008 at Sabal Palms Health Care Center of congestive heart failure. She was born in Chillicothe, OH and moved to Forestbrook condos in 1977 from Brookville, near Dayton. She was the office manager to Keener-Delinger Olds in Brookville. She was dedicated to keeping things on track, and served many years as secretary of the Forestbook condominiums. Dorothy was very active in her golden years, participating in many activities at St. Paul Methodist Church of Largo, and many other groups, especially enjoying mah-jongg. KING, Leadelle 101, of St. Petersburg, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at her daughter's residence. She was born in Biloxi, MS, and moved to the area in 1920 from Illinois. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1924, where she attended her last reunion at 91. She was a devoted Christian and was a talented seamstress and an avid reader. She was also a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grand-mother. She was preceded by her husband, Robert King, and son, William H. King. Survivors include daughters, Shirley (Richard) Metcalf, Donna (Scott) Cary, Mary (Ken) Spradlin; son, Richard (Barbara) King; stepdaughter, Roberta (Bill) Hair; daughter-in-law, Betty King Patruno; niece, Jeanette Welsh; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild. KNOPF, Thomas J. age 74, of Gainesville, FL, formerly of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away of a heart attack on Monday, Feb 4, 2008. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He enjoyed reading, worshipping God with his family and friends, cheering for the Tampa Bay Bucs and the UF Gators. LACHANCE, George Henri 60, of St. Petersburg, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at his home in Tallahassee. Born in Holyoke, MA, in 1947, he grew up in the city of Chicopee, and moved to St. Petersburg in 1967. He was a builder & carpenter by trade and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, receiving an Honorable Discharge. Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Lachance; a wife, Nancy Lachance; 3 brothers, Gerard, Roger, Jean, all of St. Petersburg; and 2 sisters, Alice Croy, of St. Petersburg, and Juliette Giroux, of South Hadley, MA. ZIMMERMAN, Wilbur Joseph, 86, was born in Dayton, OH. He served with the Marine Corps during WWII in the South Pacific. Upon his return from the war zone, he was stationed in Philadelphia, where he married Betty Miller in Oct. 1945. After the war, he attended the University of Dayton, and graduated with a degree in education, but the family construction business claimed him, and he built houses throughout Dayton and Kettering. In 1992, Bill moved to St. Petersburg to work in commercial construction, and due to the beautiful weather and ability to play golf year round, he stayed. Golf was a passion of Bill's. In his lifetime, he had 3 holes-in-one, the last at Sunset Country Club in St. Petersburg. He was a 21 year member of Clearwater Country Club, and a longtime member of the Groaners' League there. Bill is survived by his son, Michael; 2 grand-daughters, Taryn and Katherine; 2 great-granddaughters, Alexandra and Brooke, as well as 10 surviving siblings from a family of 14.
