Local residents have until Sunday to drop off donations to send to U.S. troops for Valentine's Day. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority is collecting donations as part of a giant valentine to be shipped to the troops on Feb. 14. From nonperishable food items to personal care products, military personnel serving in combat zones treasure any reminder of home. Donations can be dropped off during regular business hours at all PSTA locations or between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on weekends at the Customer Service Centers:

-PSTA Headquarters, 3201 Scherer Dr., St. Petersburg

-Central Plaza Customer Service Center, Central Ave. and 32nd St., St. Petersburg

-Williams Park Customer Service Center, Second Ave. between Third St. N and Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg

-Park Street Customer Service Center, Park St. and Garden Ave., Clearwater

City gets new leisure director

Vincent Gizzi, a 26-year employee of the city of Fort Lauderdale, is Dunedin's new leisure services director. Gizzi is currently Fort Lauderdale's recreation and special facilities superintendent and was the manager of the city's spring training stadium where he negotiated agreements with the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles. He starts Feb. 25.


Have lunch with an author Feb. 13

Several Florida authors, including Clearwater's own award-winning journalist and best-seller Fawn Germer, will participate in the annual "Lunch with an Author" at the Harborview Center, 320 Cleveland Street on Feb. 13. The event, which kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and includes lunch, costs $23. In addition to Germer, the event features James Swain, whose newest book, Midnight Rambler, delves into the underworld of child abduction and the criminal mind. It is set in Florida. Tax forum focus: small businesses

The Upper Tampa Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce will host tax forum for small businesses from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Hilton Garden Inn, 4052 Tampa Road. Speakers are scheduled to include Linda Tuzzolo of the Internal Revenue Service, Brenda Ogle of the Florida Department of Revenue, Ron Reuss, president of Gulf Coast Business Finance, and Joan Spencer, U.S. Department of Labor.
