Few of us are fortunate enough to travel to Rome to view the Vatican's treasures firsthand. So the Vatican - a small portion of it - is coming to us.
"Vatican Splendors" opens Saturday at the Florida International Museum, 244 Second Ave. N, St. Petersburg. About 200 objects will be on view in historical settings. Among them are liturgical pieces, jewelry, armor and vestments from the Papal Swiss Guard and art, including this gilded wood statue of Saint Peter, by the workshop of Bernini.
Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $20 adults, $17 seniors, $15 military and $13 children 6 and older. (727) 341-7900 or www.floridamuseum.org.
