Two men threw homemade firebombs into a north Manatee County house early Sunday and then shot at the residents, sheriff's investigators said.
The attack at the house - which may not have been the intended target - is suspected to be in retaliation for the fatal shooting Thursday of Nikita Williams, 19, in Rubonia.
Williams was shot in the chest and killed about 5 miles from Sunday's incident.
The firebombing and shooting happened around 5 a.m. at 2415 13th Ave. Drive E, in the unincorporated Memphis Community just east of Palmetto.
The two homemade firebombs set curtains and furniture on fire, and when five occupants of the house ran from the blaze, shots were fired at them.
Nanise Raymond, 21, wasshot in the attack. She was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center and was reported to be in stable condition Sunday afternoon.
Manatee County Fire Rescue extinguished the fire after it caused significant damage to the house, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
"Detectives are looking for suspects and trying to determine a motive," said a statement from the Sheriff's Office.
On the scene, detectives believe the two attackers took action in retaliation for the fatal shooting three days earlier, but the attackers may have hit the wrong house. The house the two were after may have been next door, detectives say.
