The 40th Miss Seminole scholarship pageant is Saturday at Seminole High School. Nicole Johnson, Miss America 1999, will serve as emcee. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce office or at the door. The winner will go on to compete in the Miss Florida Pageant at the Mahaffey Theater in July.

Marketing, cash flow are topics of seminar

The Seminole Chamber of Commerce Business Assistance Program will present a workshop for businesses in Seminole. Experts will present information on determining target markets, business development and cash flow management. Reservations are required.

Kiwanis Club to hear of aquarium renovation

Jody Armstrong, chief operating officer of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, will speak at the meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast. Armstrong will discuss the renovations under way at the aquarium. The aquarium closed in January and expects to announce a re-opening date shortly. This is the most extensive renovation since the transformation of the building from a water treatment plant to an aquarium 35 years ago.

Group off to Museum of Science and Industry

Seminole Recreation will host a trip to Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry that will include a screening of the film Secrets of the Pharaohs at MOSI's IMAX Theatre. The trip is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 25. The cost is $35 for transportation and admission. Participants must have a recreation card. The group will stop for lunch at the Whistle Stop. Apply now to be in Pow Wow parade

Seminole Recreation is seeking participants for the 40th annual Pow Wow Festival Parade on March 15. There is no cost to participate, but applicants must be approved in advance. The deadline for application is Feb. 22. Contact Duane Crandall, recreation program coordinator, 391-8345.

Workshop aids those starting small business

A free business workshop will be presented in Clearwater today by SCORE. The two-hour workshop will cover subjects related to starting a small business. SCORE offers free personal one-on-one counseling by appointment. SCORE is made up of volunteer advisors, retired business executives and business owners with backgrounds and professional experience including marketing, finance, IT and manufacturing. The organization is sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Learn about mortgages and credit at seminar

U.S. Rep. Gus M. Bilirakis will host a homeowners education seminar on Saturday. Bilirakis, representatives from the Federal Housing Administration, and officials from state, county and nonprofit agencies will address issues including adjustable rate mortgages, obtaining or improving credit, mortgage refinancing and late mortgage payments. The event is free.
