BRUIN EXITS HOSPITAL

Bruins defenseman Aaron Ward was released from a Pittsburgh hospital one day after an apparent neck injury against the Penguins. His status will be determined after an exam scheduled for today.

Ward was skating near the boards when Sergei Gonchar's arm or stick appeared to accidentally strike him in the throat. Boston coach Claude Julien said Ward was coughing up blood. Teammate Zdeno Charo said he heard a "choking sound." But the team has not disclosed the nature of Ward's injury.

Islanders: Defenseman Brendan Witt will miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained knee ligament.

Rangers: Henrik Lundqvist agreed to a six-year, $41.25-million extension that will make him the highest-paid goalie next season. The two-time Vezina finalist will make $7.75-million in 2008-09, $750,000 more than Vancouver's Roberto Luongo. From there, his salary decreases, culminating with $5.125-million in 2013-14. Lundqvist, who turns 26 on March 2, could have been a restricted free agent after the season.
