SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OFFERS CONCERT SERIES

BROOKSVILLE/SPRING HILL

The Hernando Symphony Orchestra will present its winter concert series "Overtures" on the following days:

- 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Hernando High School Performing Arts Center, 700 Bell Ave., Brooksville.

- 2 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at Springstead Theater, 3100 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill.

Cub Scout Pack 45 to host fundraiser

Cub Scout Pack 45 will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brooksville Elks Lodge, 14494 Cortez Blvd.

Tickets are $5 per person.

SPRING HILL

'Best of the Best' concert is March 16

The second annual "Best of the Best" concert with former students of the late Charlotte Murrin will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 16 at Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane.

The concert, which is sponsored by the Charlotte Murrin Memorial Suzuki Education Foundation, will feature performances on the cello and violin.

Desserts and refreshments will follow the concert.

BROOKSVILLE

Meet writers at this year's reading festival

The annual Hernando County Reading Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 1 at Nature Coast Technical High School, 4057 California St.

The event will include various activities, face painting, food and games.

Visitors can meet Mary Ann Cocca-Leffler, author of Jack's Talents and Mr. Tanen's Ties, who will give presentations at 10:30 a.m. and at noon. Book signings will follow each presentation.

Also participating will be Bay News 9 meteorologist Brian McClure, Tony The Balloon Guy and Jay Holt, author of The Adventures of Tommy the Tomato.

There will be character appearances by the Cat in the Hat and the St. Petersburg Times' mascot, Spot the Newshound.

Free goody bags will be given to the first 300 children. Food will be available for a price. Admission and activities will be free.

The event is sponsored by the St. Petersburg Times, Bay News 9, Target, Bright House Networks, HEART Literacy/Hernando County Schools, Friends of the Library of Hernando County and the Brooksville Rotary Club. For information, call 797-7018.
