The Red Wings will be without five-time Norris Trophy winner Nicklas Lidstrom for at least three weeks after an MRI exam revealed a sprained ligament in his right knee. Lidstrom, whose 57 points lead all defensemen and plus-39 leads all players, was hurt Monday when Colorado's Ian Laperriere checked him into the boards.
Canucks: Kevin Bieksa began a conditioning assignment. Vancouver's top-scoring defenseman last season with 42 points (12 goals, 30 assists) has missed 46 games since Nov. 1, when the skate of Nashville's Vernon Fiddler sliced his calf.
Flames: Defenseman Jim Vandermeer was acquired from the Flyers for a 2009 third-round pick. He has three goals, 15 assists and 71 penalty minutes.
Flyers: Wing Simon Gagne was told to sit out the rest of the season after sustaining his third concussion. Gagne, who has seven goals and 11 assists, has missed 35 games, including five since the latest on Feb. 10.
Stars: Stu Barnes is out 7-10 days after surgery for a torn retina. The center, who has eight goals and nine assists, was hurt Sunday against the Wings. The team did not disclose details.
