Every golf course is different.
But thank God for that. I mean, how boring would that be?
Hole after hole of the same thing, the same par with the same water hazard that you hit into each time. Make you think twice about spending $65 on a greens fee, wouldn't it?
Since there are many different courses in Hernando and Pasco counties, each with its many different nuances and nooks and crannies, we're going to take a little trip, and now, we're going to explore them.
Starting March 12, I, Mike Camunas, the humble Community sports editor, will discover a different hole on a different course about once a month, in a project we're calling Signature Series.
This is how it works:
-I'll pick a hole in either Hernando County or Pasco County. It doesn't necessarily have to be the signature hole from a course and could be just a popular hole by local golfer talk or course pros. I'll break down that hole starting with its layout, its hazards and its quirks, and even add a little history on the hole.
-Then I'll take one brave - and probably foolish - attempt at the hole myself.
I'll drag my clubs out there and see how I fare, and the respective course pro and I will give you pointers on how you can tackle the hole.
Simple as that. The series will also include photos and a graphic of the hole so you know what to expect.
So check it out.
Courses and their pros are encouraged to nominate holes for future consideration, but you're probably still wondering: Which hole will make the inaugural run in a few weeks?
Well, I guess you'll just have to pick up a paper to find out.
