Get ready for the 31st Country Jubilee, the largest fundraiser of the year for the Pinellas Historical Society. The event will be at Heritage Village, 11909 125th St. N, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Health insurance workshop set Friday

"What Are you Doing to Control Your Health Insurance Costs" is the topic of a free workshop by Sonnenberg Insurance Services at 8 a.m. Friday. It well be at the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce, 151 3rd St. NW.

The program will present information to save employers and employees money on health insurance without sacrificing benefits. Handouts about various insurance options will be provided and industry representatives will be available to answer questions. For information, e-mail

Spooktacular will unfold on Saturday

It'll be a day and night of all treats and no tricks as the city of Largo hosts its Halloween Spooktacular from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive.

Events include a trick or treat path, inflatables, rock climbing walls, super slides, games, music and more. New this year is the pumpkin Picasso, a family pumpkin decorating contest. To enter, drop off your completed pumpkin at the stage between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Wristbands, available at any Largo recreation facility, cost $5 with a Largo recreation card in advance or $6 without a card. They'll be $7 the day of the event. On-site parking is $5 and opens at 4 p.m. For more information and a list of parking locations, call 587-6740 or visit

SPCA plans workshop on animal cruelty

Animal cruelty and neglect is a countrywide problem and comes in many forms. The Humane Society University, the educational arm of the Humane Society,is bringing its national training program, Animal Cruelty 101, to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Tampa Bay, 9099 130 Ave. N, Largo, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Nov. 19.
