Those wishing to vote early for the Nov. 4 general election can do so starting today. Early voting can be done from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, through Nov. 1, at the Hernando County Supervisor of Elections offices at the Hernando County Government Center, Room 165, 20 N Main St., Brooksville, and at the Forest Oaks Government Center, 7443 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. See trash trucks up close at demo
As part of Florida Government Week, the city of Brooksville will provide a demonstration and explanation of the operation of its Sanitation Department trucks. The demonstration will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the City Hall parking lot, 201 Howell Ave. For information, call (352) 544-5465.
Poker run to help buy veterans gifts
The American Legion Riders Post 186 will host a fundraiser poker run Nov. 9 to help buy Christmas presents for the 120 veterans at Baldomero Lopez State Veterans' Nursing Home in Land O'Lakes. The event is sponsored by the Nature Coast Volunteers for Veterans. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon at American Legion Post 186, 12091 Cortez Blvd. The cost is $10, which includes a buffet dinner. The last bike out will be at noon. Stops include VFW Post 9236 in Hernando Beach, VFW Post 335 in New Port Richey and VFW Post 8681 in Shady Hills. Seniors, learn about Medicare
The Florida Department of Elder Affairs' Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders program will provide Medicare presentations from 10 a.m. to noon today and Oct. 27 at Spring Hill United Church of Christ, 4244 Mariner Blvd. Individuals eligible for or who have Medicare coverage are encouraged to attend as changes in coverage can be made from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31. Topics include comparing and choosing a Medicare prescription drug plan, the "doughnut hole" or coverage gap, Medicare Advantage plans and Medigap policies.
