Thank goodness Madonna has someone to turn to while she badmouths Guy Ritchie during their divorce. Gwyneth Paltrow, it seems, is the shoulder of choice. The actress says she's trying her best to support Madge. And why not? They share so much in common, like living in London part-time, being married to Brits and, um, other stuff. "She's a very good friend. I'm supporting her in all the ways that I can. I'm just there for her. I speak to her a lot," Paltrow said as she attended the premiere of her film Two Lovers at London's Film Festival. Awww, it's nice to know even a calculating dominatrix like Madonna has some pals. A woman can't live on media hype alone.
Britney Spears license case declared a mistrial
It turns out jurors in Britney Spears' trial for driving without a license couldn't decide, after all. The case was declared a mistrial, even after Judge James Steele instructed the jury to try again on Monday and even let lawyers make additional closing arguments, the Associated Press reports. Spears came close to bucking the matter altogether: The jury's final vote was 10-2 for acquittal. A city prosecutor did not immediately indicate whether a retrial would be sought, but a hearing was scheduled to determine whether the case would be pursued further, so stay tuned.
Gillian Anderson gives birth to a son in London
Erstwhile Dana Scully (she must get tired of that) Gillian Anderson gave birth to a son, Felix, on Oct. 15 in London, the AP reports. It is the second child for her and boyfriend Mark Griffiths. The 40-year-old's son, Oscar, will be 2 next month. She does know those are the names of the characters from The Odd Couple, right? "She's never even seen the show. She had no idea," manager Connie Freiberg said Tuesday. "... I brought it up to her, and it really doesn't sink in."
Eminem says why he threatened Moby in 2002
Remember when Eminem threatened to punch Moby at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards? Ahh, those were the days, right before Em faded into irrelevance. And thanks to he new book, Eminem: The Way I Am, we learn that since he was beaten and whipsawed as a kid, and drinking a lot in those days, he tends to be set off easily, the New York Daily News says. Apparently already upset that Christina Aguilera was presenting an award and Moby was sitting behind him (since the rapper didn't like either of them), the catalyst was when Robert Smigel's Triumph the Insult Comic Dogstopped by. I had no idea what that dog was, so my natural reaction was, 'Get the f--- out of my face,'" he writes. "And that's when I kind of lost it and a half. I stuck my fingers basically on Moby's nose, right in his face, like, 'F--- you.'" What a nice way to greet someone you've never even met before! And then he was nice enough to go up on stage, get an award from Xtina, call Moby a "little girl" and threaten him. "All my life I'd been trained to react. ... My instinct was, if someone talks about you, you see them, you fight," Em writes. "But MOBY? Really? I was going to fight MOBY? And I was going to fight a puppet? In hindsight, I should have handled it differently." Not quite an apology, but what do you expect?
