City honored for its green efforts
The city has been designated a Florida Green City by the nonprofit Florida Green Building Coalition for being a good steward of the environment. The city achieved a silver designation for its in-house practices, outreach initiatives and the adoption of ordinances to promote environmental sustainability. The city will be honored for the achievement at the Nov. 4 City Commission meeting. Tarpon Springs police Capt. Bob Kochen coordinated the effort, which the coalition recognized as the first application organized from an office of public safety. Tarpon Springs joins St. Petersburg, Dunedin, Tallahassee, Tamarac, Pinellas County, Orange County and Sarasota County to become the eighth local government to achieve the certification.
