The community of Masaryktown will celebrate the annual Czechoslovak Independence Day Dinner and Dance on Sunday at the Masaryktown Community Center, 539 Lincoln Ave.
Dinner will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. Choices are marinated baked chicken or kielbasa, including the trimmings, pastry and coffee.
The cost for the dinner and dancing is $12 for teens and adults; $6 for children 12 and younger. Dance only is $6.
Following the dinner, Mario DeLeon will provide music for dancing, and the Beseda Dancers will entertain.

Garden club needs help with waterfall
The Spring Hill Garden Club will have the second Great Waterfall Weed Out from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the waterfall entrance at Spring Hill Drive and Commercial Way.
Volunteers will prune, weed and trim the landscape beds. Refreshments will be provided.

Seniors invited to Medicare presentation
The Florida Department of Elder Affairs' SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) program will provide a Medicare presentation from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Spring Hill United Church of Christ, 4244 Mariner Blvd.
Individuals with Medicare coverage or who are eligible for Medicare coverage are encouraged to attend as changes in Medicare coverage can be made between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31.
Topics of discussion include:
- Comparing and choosing a Medicare prescription drug plan.
- The "doughnut hole" or coverage gap.
- Medicare Advantage plans and Medigap policies.

Fire station tours, more at open house
Hernando County Fire Rescue will host its second annual open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Station 22, 32409 Cortez Blvd.
There will be tours of the station and smoke trailer, equipment demonstrations, free blood-pressure checks, CPR demonstrations, and displays by the Division of Forestry, American Heart Association, American Red Cross and the Community Emergency Response Team. There will also be a firefighter chili cook-off.

Marine Corps Birthday Ball tickets on sale
Marine Corps League, Spring Hill Detachment 708, will host the 233rd United States Marine Corps Birthday Ball on Nov. 10 at Heritage Pines Country Club, 11524 Scenic Hills Blvd., off County Line Road, just south of Spring Hill.
Cocktail hour will be at 5 p.m. followed by the ceremony and dinner at 7. The speaker will be national Sr. Vice Commandant Vic Voltaggio.
Dinner choice is prime rib, chicken francaise or potato crusted salmon.
Tickets are $35 and can be purchased through Nov. 1. For seating purposes, those wishing to attend must send a request of how many tickets they want to purchase, accompanied by a check, and the first and last names of the ticket holders. Tickets are limited and will not be sold at the door.
