Florida Basketball is looking for experienced players to try out for a local AAU team. Boys ages 15 and under or in the ninth grade are invited to attend. This is a competitive league that will travel around Florida and eventually to other states as well. Try-outs will be held at Hudson High School from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 1.

Florida Basketball provides opportunities for increasing academic achievement and self-esteem of young athletes, and promotes volunteerism within the community. The organization fosters the development of academic skills and attitudes to improve grades, standardized test scores, attendance and opportunities such as acceptance into college programs.

MORE BASKETBALL: The i9 sports league has opened registration for its fall basketball league. The league runs throughout the central Pasco area and provides skill development for boys and girls ages 4 to 14.

Anyone can play, as i9 basketball is about helping players become part of a well-organized, national program emphasizing basketball education, participation, and sportsmanship.

The games emphasize the basics of basketball such as passing, catching, dribbling, formations, shooting and different types of formations.

VOLLEYBALL: The Tampa Juniors Volleyball team is looking to expand into Pasco County and create multiple teams.

Tryouts for the Tampa North division are scheduled to start Sunday and run through the end of November at Berkeley Prep in Tampa. Pasco County will have as many teams as it can fill with volleyball talent.

FLAG FOOTBALL: Registration for i9 sports' fall flag football and cheerleading is now available. The league is offering new age divisions and has expanded to a 6-on-6 format.

Boys and girls ages 4 to 14 are welcome to register. There are no tryouts and the league has fields in Land O'Lakes, New Port Richey and Hudson.

TENNIS: USTA professional Christina Hill offers tennis lessons to players of all ages at the New Port Richey Recreation Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Classes are $10 and last for one hour. They start at 5 p.m. for the beginners, 6 p.m. for the intermediate skill levels and 7 p.m. for those with experience.

GYMNASTICS: The Land O'Lakes Recreation Complex hosts gymnastics classes Tuesday nights between 5:45 and 8 p.m. The classes are broken down by age group and are available for kids ages 3 to 12.

DANCING: The Land O'Lakes Recreation Complex also hosts a dance class for ages 13 and up. The class is called Zumba, a fusion of Latin and international dance themes that creates a fitness system of its own.

It's taught by Helen Gonzalez, a certified Zumba instructor. The class meets from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. Cost is $6.
