ONE PIECE AT A TIME

Kenneth Thomas, an iron worker with Summit Erectors Inc., straddles an I-beam while assembling the framework of Community Hospital's Trinity campus. A $10-million shipment of steel for the medical center's construction has begun to arrive and the steel work is expected to be completed in about 18 weeks. Construction of the roughly $210-million hospital project was supposed to be finished this year, but there have been significant delays. Its completion target is now 2010. Summit Erectors is doing contract work for Bovis Lend Lease.
