BIG SECOND HALF KEEPS LEOPARDS IN DISTRICT HUNT

Hernando tailbacks Champ Lumdsen and Alvin Delaine combined for 235 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Leopards 33-13 over the Lecanto on Friday night.

The win keeps Hernando (3-4) in the running for the Class 3A, District 6 title.

"Keeps us in the hunt," Hernando coach John Palmer said. "Gives us a little life."

The Leopards' first score game came on a fourth and inches on the Lecanto 33. Lumdsen took the handoff on the right side and raced untouched for the score. Just over two minutes later, Josh Harvey connected from 42 yards away to put Hernando up 10-0 with 3:02 left in the first quarter. Harvey also connected on a 47-yarder early in the fourth quarter.

The Panthers (1-7) opened the second half with a 13-play drive that culminated in a 22-yard field goal and their first lead, which lasted about five minutes.

Then the Leopards rolled off 23 straight points.

"Our offensive line stepped it up in the middle of the third quarter and kind of took over a little bit," Palmer said.
