FREEDOM 17, MIDDLETON 7

A disappointing season for Middleton took another unfortunate turn Friday night when starting quarterback Greg Windham broke his left leg and left the stadium in an ambulance.

The results on the field weren't in the Tigers' favor either in a Class 4A, District 11 matchup.

Freedom (2-5, 1-2) grabbed the lead on its first drive. Quarterback Josh Grady guided the Patriots on a seven-play, 73-yard drive punctuated with a 7-yard scoring run from Sherrod Cunnigham.

Freedom added to its lead on its next drive when Grady hooked up with wideout Mark Cionci on a 6-yard touchdown to go ahead 14-0.

The Tigers (2-5, 0-2) stood firm on defense the rest of the game, keeping Freedom out the end zone from that point. But hopes of a comeback suffered a blow with 1:15 left in the first half when Windham, a freshman, went down in a pile of players while scrambling to look for a receiver.
