First and goal from the 5-yard line with 1:10 left in the fourth quarter and the game on the line, and what does St. Petersburg Catholic do? Hand it off to running back Keelyan Bryant.
The result: a 5-yard touchdown and the Barons' first win of the year.
Bishop Verot (5-2) had its chances to pull out this back-and-forth battle, including two possessions after the Bryant run. One resulted in a Barons interception of Jake Kistel. And on the final one, the Vikings simply ran out of time.
Bryant piled up 249 yards on 32 carries and scored once. Chris McKay threw for two touchdowns. SPC is now 1-7 and can make the playoffs with wins against Mulberry and Lake Placid.
"This win was huge for us," Barons coach Tod Creneti said.
