The following military personnel graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Army Pvt. Jason L. McDonald is the son of Felicia Salters of Clearwater, and J.L. McDonald of Elizabethtown, Ky., and is a 2002 graduate of Palm Harbor University High School.

Army Pvt. Cody R. Trembly is the son of Renee McNames of Clearwater. In 2006, the private graduated from Countryside High School, Clearwater.

Army National Guard Pvt. Megan A. Boggs is the daughter of Maura Cooke of Clearwater, and Kimberly Boggs of Fort Worth, Texas.

During nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

The following military personnel recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Seaman Wesley E. Seefried is the son of Don M. Seefried of Clearwater and Heather L. Mears of Orange City. He is a 2008 graduate of Deland High School.

Navy Seaman Michael R. Savage is the son of Kathryn A. Savage of Clearwater, and is a 2008 graduate of Clearwater High School.

During the eight-week program, a variety of training was completed which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations," an exercise designed to give recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.

The following military personnel are graduates of basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

Army Pvt. Derrick L. Schaeffer is the son of Darren and Ginger Schaeffer of Queen Creek, Ariz., and grandson of Dave and Judy Schaeffer of Cumberland Drive, Largo.

Army Reserve Spec. Marco A. Aponte is the son of Annie Aponte of Crystal Beach. In 1990, the specialist graduated from Tarpon High School.

During nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
