What's new
Kazmir lost his last postseason start in a matchup with Cole Hamels but pitched well enough to win; he calmed down after a two-run first to give up just three earned runs overall in six innings. Manager Joe Maddon said Kazmir has felt a lot more comfortable with his slider in his past few starts. Hamels has been at his best in the playoffs, earning NLCS MVP honors by going 2-0 against the Dodgers with a 1.93 ERA. The Phillies ace kept his streak going with another strong performance in Game 1 of the World Series, giving up just two earned runs in seven innings.
Scouting report
The All-Star has struggled with consistency this season. He throws a slider and changeup and is at his best when he has good fastball command. Hamels throws a four-seam fastball, a slow-breaking changeup and a curveball.

What they're saying
"With Cole Hamels, facing him, it looks like to him that every pitch he throws, everything that he does, you feel — (it) looks like he's on point right now. So it feels like every pitch you throw is going to be a crucial pitch. You feel like you want to throw up zeroes. And if you don't, it's going to be tough to get a win." Scott Kazmir "Hamels has been tremendous. Every time you hand him the ball, you expect to win the game. Definitely he can throw a shutout for you. And I even look up sometimes and think he's going to throw some no-hitters before his career is over. He's that kind of pitcher. He's a top-of-the-rotation pitcher and he's very good."
