TAX COLLECTIONS FALL SHORT BY $40.4-MILLION

Florida tax collections continue to fall short of even downsized estimates. State economists report the tax take for September was $40.4-million less than expected, which is likely to further constrict the state budget picture. About $12-million of September's shortfall can be attributed to the collapse of Lehman Bros. and its tainted real estate holdings.

Vietnam memorial replica to visit

For the first time, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is coming to Clearwater. The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be on display from Thursday night through Monday at the Carpenter Complex adjacent to Bright House Networks Field. It will be free and open to the public 24 hours a day. The wall is a three-fifths-scale model of the memorial in Washington, D.C. Such a memorial hasn't been in Pinellas County for 17 years. This one is a Florida-based replica and is one of several walls that tour the country.

ST. PETERSBURG

2 seriously hurt in separate crashes

Traffic investigators were looking into two serious crashes that occurred Monday night in St. Petersburg. The first happened at 7:35 p.m. when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at Fourth Street N and 75th Avenue, St. Petersburg police dispatchers said. The second crash happened at 8:41 p.m. when a motorcyclist struck a pole in the area of 1-275 N and Roosevelt Boulevard. The pedestrian and the motorcyclist both were transported to Bayfront Medical Center with serious injuries.
