Despite battling chilly temperatures, the Newsome boys and girls teams held commanding wins in the 2A-7 meet Tuesday at Rowdy Gaines Pool in Winter Haven.

The Wolves boys, which had top four sweeps in the 200 free and 500 free, defeated second-place Winter Haven 576-306; the girls beat second-place Sebring by a 615.50-380.50 margin.

Senior Jason Taylor won the 200 free and 500 free for the Wolves and Jacob Bukaweski won the 100 fly and placed second in the 500 free. The Newsome duo also was part of the winning 200 free and 400 free relay teams.

On the girls side, Sharla Milne won the 200 free and the 500 free while Katie Kyle placed first in the 200 IM and the 100 back. Other notable finishes included freshman Amy Taylor's runnerup finish in the 500 free and 100 back.

"I think it's great for our teams to win district championships," Newsome coach Chau Clark said. "Did my all of my swimmers swim their best times? No, I'm always looking ahead to regionals and we have two other districts in our region so the teams that have meets on, say, Saturday when it warms up, might make a big difference in where my fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-place swimmers place."
