OBITUARIES

ALLMAN, William Dominic Jr. 86, of Seminole, passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Patricia Allman; daughter Dr. Mary Jo Brubaker and son-in-law Rev. Daniel L. Brubaker of North Carolina; daughter Dr. Anne Allman of Missouri; and son Michael J. Allman and daughter-in-law Kathleen Allman of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Patricia Vir, Daniel A. Brubaker, Matthew Allman, and Emily Allman; and two great-grand-children, Ajay and Dhruv Vir. Bill was born in Washington, DC and graduated from Anacostia High School, George Washington University, and Maryland University and continued his education at Florida State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in China to establish weather patterns for that country during WWII. Bill retired in 1986 after a 30 year career in public education, first at the old Largo Junior Senior High School and later at Seminole Senior High School. He was known as the counselor who always wore bow ties. For 16 years Bill and his wife owned Hen House Antiques. A long time resident of Seminole, Bill loved everything the Suncoast has to offer: fishing, the Gulf, birding, tennis, the public library system, smart bridge players, the county parks, good friends, and the St. Pete Times. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's name to Bay Pines VAHCS Hospice or the St. Petersburg Free Clinic. Visitation is Sunday Nov. 2 from 2-4 pm at the funeral home. BERNHARDT, Kenneth W. 83, of Tampa, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008. Born in Flushing, NY in 1925, he was a World War II combat veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He received a Purple Heart after being wounded in France. After the war, he graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Journalism. He moved to Paris where he met his wife, Hadarah. They eventually moved back to New York, where he became an Advertising Executive, bringing them to Honolulu then Tampa. He received many distinguished advertising awards, including a Cleo Award and donated his time and efforts to producing American Cancer Society commercials that warned against the dangers of smoking. He was an avid tennis player, runner and surfer and served with many local community groups including the Florida Orchestra, Tampa Museum and The Florida Aquarium. He is survived by Hadarah, his wife of 56 years; 2 sisters, Jeanne Bernhardt and Dorothy Johnson; his daughters Caroline Bernhardt Ramirez (David) and Francesca Bernhardt Beatty (Steven); and a grandchild, Alex Bernhardt Beatty. BUZZA, Muriel B. (Feeney) "Ditty", 87, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at The Allegro at College Harbor, St. Petersburg. Born in Worcester, MA, the daughter of the late Mark L. and Florence E. (Thalin) Feeney. She moved to St. Petersburg in 1979 from Goffstown, NH. After moving to Florida she became a realtor with John Cyrus, Realtor. Ditty was past President and life member of The Womens' Chamber of Commerce of the Greater Suncoast Guild. An artist most of her life, she was a longtime member of The Miniature Art Society of Florida. She is survived by her loving husband of 64½ years, Eric M. Buzza, Sr., of St. Petersburg; her loving children, a son, Eric Buzza Jr. of St. Petersburg, and a daughter, Sandra Clougherty and her husband John of Orlando, and Northwood, NH; 3 grandchildren; 7 great- grandchildren; her brother, Mark L. Feeney, Jr. and his wife June of Plymouth, MA; many nieces, nephews and cousins. HAYNES, Rev. Richard B. 64, of St. Petersburg, went Home to be with the Lord Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, of heart failure. He was born in North Carolina and came here in 1985, from Dallas, TX. KADYK, David Jackson 82, of Palm Harbor passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008. He was born in Springfield, IL. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1948, and Stetson University College of Law in 1951. He was a 50 year member of the Florida Bar, a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer, and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He was a member of the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel, the Maritime Law Association, the American Board of Trial Advocates and past President of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association. He practiced with Macfarlane, Ferguson, Allison and Kelly from 1951-1997 and with Smith, Clark, Delesie, Bierley, Mueller and Kadyk from 1997-2007. He was a mentor, friend and inspiration to the many young attorneys that he trained during his career. He was particularly known for his high ethical standards as well as his tenacity and skills in the representation of his clients. Both his good humor and ferocity were known and admired by his law partners as well as those who litigated against him. He served his country as a pilot instructor flying P-51 Mustangs in the US Army Air Corps 1943-1946. He was a former Commander of the Tampa Power Squadron. He was an avid outdoorsman and golfer. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Beverly; sons, James, Peter, Daniel and Christopher; stepchildren Lauree and Michael Carnes; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and his brother, John Kadyk, Berkeley, CA. At Dave's request no funeral services will be held, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.

McGANN, Ava M. age 80, of Holiday, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, in Florida following a brief illness. She was a native of Poughkeepsie, graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Yonkers, NY and with her mother, Ava ran the McGann Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, NY. She then lived for 23 years in Florida, where she worked at Forest Glen Adult Care Facility and Home Health and was a member of Our Lady Queen of Florida Catholic Church in New Port Richey. She also lived 10 years in North Carolina. Ms. McGann was preceded in death by her parents, George and Eleanor McGann and sister, Florence McGann. She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Russell (late husband Robert Russell) of McMinnville, OR; sister, Rosemary McGann Trott and husband Richard of Florence, AL; and brother, George McGann and wife Josephine of Poughkeepsie, NY, and several nieces and nephews. RYAN, James C. 81, of St. Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he served 2 years in the U.S. Navy, and was an 18 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. SHOEMAKER, Betty Ann born on Dec. 31st, 1926, in Washington, DC, died Saturday, Oct. 18th, 2008, in Dublin OH. Originally from Bethesda, MD, attended Bethesda Chevy Chase H.S. Worked as a grants clerk for NIH, retiring in 1977. Married Donald Shoemaker 1946. They resided in Oldsmar, until Don died in 2003. She then moved to Ohio in 2004. Daughter of Vivian T. deceased and Margaret E. Middleton, who is 101 years old. Survived by her sons, Bruce, Ted and Rob; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister; a brother and a half-brother and their families. She loved animals, golf, playing cards, and ice cream. She will be greatly missed.
