OUR HERITAGE

One in an occasional series on the historic buildings at Largo's Heritage Village

DISPLAYED NOW: Boyer Cottage was built in 1878 near Spring Bayou in Tarpon Springs by Joshua Boyer, a fisherman who stopped at Anclote, a small sponging village. After hemarried Mary Ormond, they built this cottage and a livery stable.

BACK THEN: This photo shows the one-room Boyer Cottage in the 1880s. Joshua Boyer anchored his sloop at Spring Bayou, where he met Alexander Ormond. Then he met Ormond's daughter Mary. They fell in love and were married.

The April 24, 1877, marriage license of Joshua Boyer and Mary E. Ormond is part of the display at the cottage.

The inside of the Boyer Cottage at Heritage Village looks close to the way it did more than a hundred years ago. Heritage Village is at 11909 125th St. N, Largo. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free.
