To say the crowd at the Cambridge Christian gymnasium was into the match Thursday was an understatement. Mixed cheers of "Let's go Lancers" and "Let's go Bayshore" made it hard to think.
Yet despite Cambridge's strong home crowd and just two days off its commanding sweep of Berean Academy, Bayshore Christian won its 12th straight district title 25-13, 25-15, 23-25, 25-19.
It may have been the first or second for a select few of the Warriors, but it was the 12th district title in a row for coach Melanie Humenansky.
Before the game when asked what it would take to win another title, Humenansky said, "We just need to play our game, at our level. That's what it's going to take."
Her team's performance did not disappoint.
Standout junior outside hitter Gabby Fernandez had an overwhelming 17 kills in the match.
"Everyone played really well and we came out on top," Fernandez said when asked about her performance.
Bayshore will play in the regional quarterfinals starting Tuesday.
