The Hillsborough County Fair kicks off Wednesday at its new location in Valrico, bringing carnival rides, livestock exhibitions, entertainment, food and other fun.

The fair was a roving event spread out over different venues for several years, but last year secured land at the corner of State Road 60 and Sydney Washer Road.

Volunteer organizer Janet Aversa said the fair includes Robinson's Racing Pigs, a circus, health screenings, a gospel sing, plant sale, chili cook-off, Harvest Queen pageant and other special events throughout the weekend.

The Harvest Queen pageant will be Thursday at 7 p.m., and registration will start at 4:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds. The entry fee is $50, and the winner will receive a $1,000 college scholarship.

Admission to the fair is $5 for adults, and free for children under 8, military members and first responders.
