Male competitors ages 30 to 39 enter the Gulf of Mexico south of Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach on Saturday morning while competing in the Ironman World Championship 70.3.

Amy Kuitse, 45, left, starts the second portion of the race. Kuitse competed in the nonprofessional, 45 to 49 age group. To race here, competitors had to earn a spot at one of 29 global qualifying races.

A shower of fresh water rinses off competitors at the transition area south of Pier 60. The triathletes hail from all over the world.
