EAST BAY

WHAT ARE THE INDIANS DOING?

Switching to a spread offense. Just kidding. As usual, everyone in the stadium knows what's coming with wishbone offense as the Indians look to control the ball and the clock.

What they're saying about the Indians

Coach Brian Thornton "We don't have a lot of Division I kids, but we do have some good high school players with some talent."

Riverview coach Bruce Gifford "You know what you're going to get with East Bay's offense. They bring the same (wishbone) offense at you and they do it well."

DT Dontavious Fleming "I think we have some real good skill at certain positions. Our defensive line is going to cause some havoc."

Friday Night Rewind We like the Indians' offensive line and the potential of their new quarterback, but they got a tough district draw (Armwood, Hillsborough)

Additional charactersA few Indians we'll be following on Fridays

QB Aaron Mills Senior moves from LB/TE to quarterback with the departure of Fred Porter. He has played some QB in the past and been to wishbone camp three times, so he isn't completely unfamiliar with the position.

DT Dontavious Fleming The three-year starting captain has a lot of experience to go along with quick feet for a big man (6-foot-4, 310)

OL Chad Fincher, Alex McKeithen Fincher and McKeithen, both returning starters, anchor what will likely be the team's strongest unit.

K Forrest Meredith The all-conference selection last year continues the Indians' tradition of strong kickers.

Why the Indians will make the playoffs

WillWinIf

The Indians can shorten games with their ground game. If they can keep the ball out of their opposition's hands and convert their opportunities, East Bay has a chance.

Why the Indians may not make the playoffs

WillLoseIf

They can't stay healthy. Depth will be an issue. Thornton said he likes his starters but "we can't afford to get guys hurt."
