FRIDAY NIGHT REWIND

What is John C. Cotey doing?

A look at Times preps columnist John C. Cotey's Twitter feed during fall football practices. For more during the upcoming season, follow him on Twitter at @FriNightRewind.

If I had to make a list of runners I think will get closest to 2,000 yards, Tampa Catholic's Hank McCloud might top it.

* * *

Armwood's Matt Jones is still The Truth, though. Just sayin.'

* * *

Sleeper for 2009: Jesuit. And by sleeper, I mean lots better than people even think they will be.

* * *

Sickles intrigues me. Scott O'Donoghue is a stud, and what will Brian Turner's effect be? Lots of buzz, but is .500 in the future?

* * *

One ball, at least six guys every play that deserve to touch it. How will that work at Hillsborough? I think Earl Garcia figures it out.

* * *

Now that I look around, I think the best teams in the county are: 1. Armwood; 2. Hillsborough; 3. Plant; 4. TBT; 5. TC.

* * *

Plant better not sleep on the Titans' opening night. Because I love me some Tampa Bay Tech defense.

* * *

Man-Man gets all the pub at Armwood, but David Tinsley was looking good out there. Real good.

* * *

Berkeley Prep's Nelson Agholor. Was named a top player in 2012 class by MaxPreps. Never heard of him. Think I'll be on the lookout.

* * *

I think Alonso's C.J. Bennett is more than just a system quarterback. But he needs a signature win over a signature team.

* * *

Alonso has won 23 games in the past four years - 14 of those via King, Blake, Leto and Sickles. * * *

* * *

Just wondering: how much of Bloomingdale's success was due to coach Jason Stokes, now at Middleton? Guessing more than the Bulls faithful want to admit.

* * *

Losing its quarterback really dampens Spoto's chances for a breakthrough season. I think that costs the Spartans 2-3 victories.

* * *

I think this year's Tampa Catholic-Jesuit game ends up being the most significant and exciting in the history of the series.

* * *

Talking to T.J. Mutcherson gets me excited about the football season and that Wharton-Freedom battle for New Tampa.

* * *

Sleeper for 2009: Lennard. I just got a feeling.

* * *

If TBT had an experienced quarterback, I'd almost pick them to reach state semifinals. Even so, you gotta think the Titans will go a long way.

* * *

Newsome doesn't get the love it deserves. But I think Ken Hiscock and Co. have two good seasons coming up. Map, meet the Wolves. Wolves, the map.

* * *

Jason Stokes will need a year or two to get the Middleton program charged up. Once he does though, watch out.

* * *

If Chamberlain were a stock, and I didn't sell all my shares by now, I think I'd be angry. Be nice to see them bounce back though, in time.

* * *

If the offensive and defensive lines don't betray Jefferson this year, they could be scary good.

* * *

I think Gaither coach Mark Kantor has the toughest job in the county. Cowboy faithful used to winning but lost a bunch and schedule is stiffest around.

* * *

Is Sickles-Alonso a rivalry? Or just on the way to becoming one? This year's game will be a real humdinger.

* * *

Sleeper for 2009: T.J. Glover, Plant RB. He's gotten some buzz, but dude has crazy speed and wide-open offense to flourish in.

* * *

I think Armwood's Rob Jones has the best highlight video I've ever seen. That has nothing to do with 2009. But I just watched it. Dang!
