ROBINSON

What are the Knights doing?

Dropping down to Class 2A may be just what the doctor ordered. It's certainly what coach Mike DePue ordered, who feels his Knights are finally getting the chance to play on a level field.

Why the Knights will make the playoffs

Will Win If Jesuit is the favorite but the other five schools Robinson must beat out? Two first-year schools, three others that were a combined 8-22.

Why the Knights may not make the playoffs

Will Lose If Gonzalez has to move back to QB. He's not a bad one, but he's more valuable to the Knights' hopes on the outside.

What they're saying about the Knights

Coach Mike DePue "We have nine seniors and 23 juniors, kids that have taken some beatings the last two years. ... I think these kids, especially the young ones, are looking to build on those experiences.''

Coach Mike DePue "Offensively, we have skills people that are all juniors and that are really going to be something else. I think the offense is going to be explosive.''

Newsome coach Ken Hiscock "They are always very athletic and always well-coached. Just a very sound football team that you can tell Mike instills a lot of discipline in.''

WR Ruben Gonzalez "This summer we busted ourselves a lot in the weight room. The conditioning was completely different from the past two years.''

Friday Night Rewind The Knights worked hard to better the way they finish games after blowing a few late last year, and Gonzalez moves back to his natural position so look out.

A few Knights we'll be following on Fridays

WR Ruben Gonzalez He played QB last year, but the 6-3, 190-pound junior will excel as a wideout. He says, "I want to have my breakout season," and he's set up nicely to do so.

QB Blake Rice Last year's JV starter takes over, and DePue has confidence he'll be fine. He has a nice touch and has worked hard to grasp the spread offense.

RB Tim Randolph The junior transfers in from Spoto, where he led the Spartans in rushing. With big fullback Bob Smith blocking for him, expect close to 1,000 yards.
