For the Longhorns, Sept. 4, 2009 will mark a momentous occasion: For the first time in its three seasons, Lennard has started 1-0.
Fred Porter, a junior transfer from East Bay, led the Longhorns down the field on the opening drive. His 16-yard touchdown put his team up 7-0 only 3:15 into the game. He continued to dominate the rest of the game.
"Every week he gets better," Longhorns coach George Edington said of Porter.
Lennard junior Tevin Abney also had success rushing, with 84 yards and one touchdown. Senior Cory Berrien also had a 51-yard rushing touchdown.
Bloomingdale's only points came with just less than 7 minutes to play on a 3-yard rushing touchdown by sophomore Chris Herald.
Each team recovered a fumble and had an interception.
