NO. 1 FLORIDA VS. CHARLESTON SOUTHERN, 7, SUN SPORTS, 1250-AM

The Gators will try to extend their SEC-best opening-game winning streak to 20 against a team that is a 73-point underdog, according to one oddsmaker. Charleston Southern is looking for its first win against a Division I opponent; the Buccaneers are 0-16 all time in those games. Charleston Southern, out of the Big South Conference, returns its top three rushers from 2008. Seven of their top eight receivers and four starting offensive linemen also are back. The defense will feature a ton of newcomers, as only three of their top 10 tacklers return.

What to watch for ...

The performance of Florida's reserves and young players, particularly QB John Brantley, left. UF coach Urban Meyer has raved about Brantley's progress, and he could get lots of playing time. With 11 starters returning on defense, seven on offense, Meyer knows what he has in his veterans. So this will be an opportunity to see a lot of young players in a game situation. Meyer said he's eager to see how they handle the game-day ritual from Thursday through the end of the game. Several backup positions are still up for grabs, so this is an ideal time for some to prove themselves.
