Edward L. and Betty J. Shumaker of Spring Hill celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Friday. They were married Sept. 3, 1949, at Outer Drive United Presbyterian Church in Detroit.
Mr. Shumaker served in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps from February 1952 through February 1954. He retired from the Ford Motor Co. in 1985, where he had been an inspection department supervisor and finished his career as a laboratory technician at Ford's Vinyl Plant in Mount Clemens, Mich. Mrs. Shumaker was a homemaker.
The Shumakers built a home in Pasco County in 1979 and commuted from Michigan to Florida until March 1985, when they moved here permanently. They moved to their current villa in Seven Hills in 1996.
The couple have three children: Edward and his wife, Elaine, of Pasco County; Nancy and her family live in Minnesota, south of Minneapolis; and Lawrence and his wife, Michelle, of Gaylord, Mich. They have seven grandchildren.
The Shumakers celebrated their anniversary by going out to dinner with family and friends.
