The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national foundation started by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, awarded Belcher Elementary and Safety Harbor Elementary the Bronze Award for their healthy school initiatives.
Belcher Elementary was recognized for its after-school fitness boot camp. Safety Harbor Elementary won for making healthful changes in its school lunch program.

Blended pre-K program available
The school district is offering a blended pre-K program through June 9 at selected school sites. Registration is free for those who enroll at a Title I school and meet the free/reduced lunch criteria. A fee of $75 weekly is required for all others. To be eligible, the child's birth date needs to fall between Sept. 1, 2005, and Aug. 31, 2006. To enroll, you must have proof of Florida residency, birth certificate/proof of child's age, health insurance proof (if available), Florida Certificate of Immunization (DH Form 680) and physical examination certificate (dated within the last year).
