Three Pinellas teachers have been named Outstanding Social Studies Teachers for 2009-10.

A team of area supervisors selected Ernest Johnson from Skycrest Elementary, Donna Johnson from Osceola Middle and Samuel Davis from St. Petersburg High and honored them at the Pinellas Council for Social Studies banquet.

The teachers will attend the Florida Council for Social Studies conference next month in Palm Beach Gardens.

Library media staffs will mentor

The Florida Association for Media Supervisors has awarded the Florida Power Library Schools designation to Skyview Elementary and Tarpon Springs Elementary.

The schools will mentor other schools interested in developing quality library media programs.

Principal visits China to learn

Dunedin Highland Middle School principal Brenda Poff was among 400 U.S. educators who traveled to China for a one-week educational tour to learn about Chinese culture and language.

The trip was sponsored by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters in partnership with the College Board. Poff met with Chinese education leaders and local education commissions to build and expand Chinese language programs in U.S. schools.
