HIRE OF THE DAY

Does ESPN have a rule that it must hire every player who retires from the NFL? Anyway, the latest is Tedy Bruschi, who retired last week after 13 years with the Patriots. Bruschi will provide NFL analysis on ESPNBoston.com - ESPN's new site that launches Monday - and appear on NFL Live, SportsCenter, ESPN Radio and other ESPN platforms.

Sellout of the day

Tickets for the Canadian Football League's 97th Grey Cup have sold out, making it the quickest sellout in the game's history. The Grey Cup is Nov. 29 at the 46,020-seat McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

Your two cents

I read the letters from discouraged Rays fans in Tuesday's Times and wanted to puke. Give Joe Maddon a break. A manager is only as good as his tools. The second guessing is a joke. Last year when he would turn to the bullpen, nobody questioned his judgment. Do you think Joe Torre or Terry Francona or Tony La Russa are good managers because they are simply geniuses? They have tools around them to make them look smart. People need to get off their high horse, quit looking for excuses and support them for better or worse.
