IRVING, Texas - Former USF standout Mike Jenkins will start at cornerback for the Cowboys in Sunday's opener against the Bucs. But he shouldn't get too comfortable. He and Orlando Scandrick will alternate starts because their competition was too close to call. Before training camp, Jenkins said, "It's my job to lose," and Scandrick replied that was up to coaches, not Jenkins. "I have a lot of confidence in myself and also in Orlando," said Jenkins, a first-round pick in his second season. "I feel like we both can go anywhere else and start." Scandrick was a fifth-round pick last year.
Turnovers scarce: The Cowboys had only eight interceptions last season, and in the first three preseason games had no fumble recoveries and one interception. Then Friday against the Vikings, backups Steve Octavien and Pat Watkins each returned an interception for a touchdown.
