U.S. 19 CRASH LEADS TO DUI, OTHER CHARGES

Police arrested a man they say crashed into an accident scene in the 10300 block of U.S. 19 N on Monday night, nearly clipping a police officer and two paramedics.

Kevin Lee Chaney, 21, of 4927 39th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, driving with a suspended or revoked license, reckless driving and driving under the influence.

Officer John Coleman was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, Capt. Sanfield Forseth said, after being bumped by his cruiser. He is recovering from shoulder and leg injuries at home.

Chaney was headed south on U.S. 19 when he encountered the original accident, lost control of his car and hit Coleman's cruiser. Coleman and the paramedics were injured jumping to safety over a concrete barrier, a crash report said

Chaney registered a 0.219 blood-alcohol reading, police said. Florida laws presume a driver to be impaired at 0.08.
