Ah, September, when studios clear their shelves of movies that years ago seemed like good ideas but didn't pan out. Movies like Whiteout (R), which was filmed more than two years ago and is just now escaping.
Kate Beckinsale, above, has put out five movies since making this one, none of them hits, and maybe that's what Warner Bros. was waiting for. The underachieving actor plays U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko, who is literally tracking a killer to the end of the earth, in Antarctica. Wonder what the extradition laws are down there? No matter. She'll probably just shoot him anyway.
Whiteout may have been screened two years ago when it was supposed to come out but I didn't see it.

Sorority Row (R) is a remake of 1983's The House on Sorority Row, in which a college prank turns deadly and somebody has dues to pay before graduation.
Ellie (Rumer Willis, left), Cassidy (Briana Evigan), Claire (Jamie Chung) and Jessica (Leah Pipes) convince a campus stud that he killed Megan (Audrina Patridge) during sex. When Megan accidentally dies, the sorority sisters hide the body and pledge secrecy. A year later, Megan either returns from the dead or someone is getting bloody revenge for her.
Sorority Row wasn't screened in time for Weekend review.
