NEW PORT RICHEY
A 43-year-old man was convicted Wednesday of capital sexual battery on a child under 12 and sentenced to life in prison - with another 15 years on top of that for lewd and lascivious battery on the same girl when she was a teenager. James Oscar Headrick, who lived in Shady Hills and later New Port Richey, abused the learning-disabled girl from the time she was about 7 years old until she was 15, prosecutors said. Headrick was arrested in 2007. His relationship to the girl is not being disclosed because of the nature of the charges. The victim is now 18.

Salesman accused of pocketing cash
A salesman for MetroPCS is accused of taking the business' earnings and, instead of depositing them in the bank, stuffing the envelopes of cash in his closet. According to a report from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, Jesse V. McCabe, a 29-year-old from New Port Richey, had $18,775 in his closet from 13 deposits he never made between Aug. 19 and Sept. 2. When his boss confronted him about the missing money, McCabe went home and had his parents drive him to the bank to deposit the cash, authorities said. McCabe told investigators he wasn't stealing the money, he just kept putting off making the deposit - and he failed to tell his boss about it because he has been drinking and using prescription medication illegally, the report said. McCabe was arrested Wednesday on a charge of grand theft. He was released Thursday on $2,000 bail.
