Anclote pumped for first game

How excited is the Holiday community about having a football program of its own? Consider:

"We had an awesome turnout for our junior varsity last Thursday," Anclote coach Matt Wicks said.

Now for the real show.

Anclote's varsity had last week off, meaning tonight's 7:30 home game against Lakeland Victory Christian is the first regular-season contest for the first-year program.

"It's the culmination of all the hard work over the summer," Wicks said. "It's a way for everyone to come together on a Friday night. It's going to be special."

From Wicks, here are three players/units to watch:

- Travis Hendrix, Jr., RB: "We're going to have to rely on him to carry the ball. He's very elusive and very quick."

- The offensive line: "They're going to have to be the focal point of our success. We've finally got them looking good and playing like a unit. We've only got six kids, though, so hopefully nobody goes down." The top performer thus far? Freshman Terry Linton, who is 6-foot-2, 268 pounds.

- Terrell Martin, Fr., LB: "We're looking for him to have a big night. We've made him a team captain. He has a great heart, a positive spirit and he flies to the football."
